Truth

As I type this, my son Darren is about 10 meters away from me. I am at the computer desk in the house and he... he is outside. There is a large pile of dirt that has been sitting on our land since we leveled the front yard for seeding last fall. He is methodically digging into it, balancing a large shovel-full, turning, walking 11 paces away, dumping it onto a new pile. Then he turns, walks back in his dusty rubber boots, shovel under his arm and digs in again. The large pile of dirt becoming the smaller pile while the new pile becoming the larger, fresher looking pile. Curt sent him out there to do this futile job as a punishment for lying. Someone may say that the lie he told was not a "big" lie. I remember other kids trying to differentiate between types of lies when i was young. Ridiculous. A lie is a lie. Relationship cannot survive under the burden of lying and deceit....and character grows when we refuse to take the easy way out. God, cause my children to love the truth, to cling to it, to never shy from it. Let them see how relationships are shattered and trust is destroyed when anything but truth alone is embraced. If you could turn the water into wine, the "loaves and fishes" into a feast... please turn this pitiful pile of shovelled dirt into a lesson on truth. Speak to his tender 11 year old heart as he is quietly working alone out there. You are better with words and slower to anger. Abounding in love... and he is Yours. Speak Lord.
